Adventures of a Single Girl…

Eddie the Eagle made my heart soar

on May 1, 2016

If you’ve been following me on facebook, you’d know that during the week I went on a date to the movies. My date and I are both a bit sports mad, so we were eager to see “Eddie the Eagle.” What you don’t know about me yet, is that I’m mad for the Olympics, or the OOOOlympics, as I like to call them. If you’ve seen “Ice Castles,” you’ll know why I say that! I’m sports mad, and sports movies mad.

Anyhoo, so my interest in the Olympics meant that I was super keen to see this one. Even though I’d watched the 1988 Calgary Olympics, and knew the story, I was busting to see the film!

Obviously, Hugh Jackman’s a big draw card too. Hubba hubba.

My date is a g01.05.16auy I’ve been out with a few times now. He plays sport and watches it, so we have a mutual interest in sports. It’s so much better to go to a movie you’re both interested in. So many times in the past I’ve gone because the other person was keen, or they came because I was. But this tops that and we were both really looking forward to seeing it.

We arrived at the cinema and were so lucky to be the only ones in the cinema. Woohooo!! Gotta love that.

It turns out, we chose really well. This is an amazing movie. If you’re not aware of the plot, it’s about a British boy who’s even more Olympics mad than I am, and from a young age, he always dreamed of competing at the Olympics. He tried a few different sports, and then eventually he focused on Ski Jumping.

To get there, he enlisted the help of Bronson Peary, played by Hugh Jackman. That should be enough right there, to get you interested, because he’s amazing in every respect, but his history in the sport meant for some colourful interactions.

This movie has a touch of When Harry Met Sally, and a little of Dirty Dancing, in the best of ways. It’s funny, and moving. We were on the edge of our seats, even though we’d both witnessed the story the first time round. I was so engrossed that I forgot all about that and just wanted him to do well. With every jump, I was tense, anticipating, and elated!!

If you want a movie that will take you on a journey across Europe and Canada, see this movie before you miss out. Tears were shed, cuddles were needed, spirits were lifted, hearts soared, and we left the cinema feeling amazing about life.

I’d buy this movie and watch it over and over!
